Meet this week's Pheatured scientist!

Phuture Dr. Isaiah Speight

Isaiah is in his second year of research in the graduate program in Chemistry at Vanderbilt University. Isaiah works under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy Hanusa where his research interests are in solid state synthesis of organic and organometallic compounds.

His project focuses on using mechanochemistry, an alternative solvent-free method, to form new catalysts for existing organic reactions. When he is not in the lab, you will find Isaiah playing video games, watching anime, longboarding, and playing basketball.

Isaiah earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from Norfolk State University, Norfolk Virginia the Spring of 2016. He was also a part of the Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Science (DNIMAS) scholarship program. Isaiah's plans after earning his Ph.D. is to be a tenure-track Chemistry professor at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) so that he can introduce more students to chemistry and help diversify the world of chemists.
